FCC finds Verizon guilty of supercookies

Nowadays, advertisements make the world function. Every company is spending billions every year trying to find the best way to sell their products even if this means that they have to change their entire strategy. Although most companies do this within the law, there are also some who are ready to do so illegally if this will bring them profits.

A good example of this is Verizon that used “supercookies” to expand their sales and to reach  their customers in the easiest way possible. The “supercookies” are inserted into the mobile devices and the customers cannot detect nor delete them. This means that their privacy is being attacked for the sake of profit, and they are completely in the dark. However, when the supercookies were discovered, the company was attacked from all sides, and now they have to give an explanation for their strategy.

After an investigation, the FCC announced that Verizon was found guilty and they will have to change their policy. From now on, the company will have to notify their customers about their “supercookies”, and they will need their consent before they can gather or use any data. Apart from this, they will also have to pay a $1.35 million fine for their actions, money that will go directly to the United States Treasury.

It is very important to know that our personal information is not being used without our approval. Companies like Verizon need to change their strategy if they want their customers to continue using their products. Over the past few months, Verizon sales have decreased dramatically, and this tendency does not seem likely to change any time soon. Verizon has to work diligently to regain the trust of their customers and future custome
