Trump has world leaders worried

Elections in the United States are a strange thing within the international community as they do affect citizens around the world. Especially given America’s sizeable military strength, it’s understandable that those in other countries do concern themselves with who will be the U.S. Commander in Chief.

As Donald Trump looks to be the nominee for the Republican Party, diplomats across the world are beginning to feel a great deal of anxiety. In fact, experts say that his ascent has been the starting point of just about every conversation related to politics. One insider explained, “They’re scared and they’re trying to understand how real this is. They all ask. They follow our politics with excruciating detail. They ask: ‘What is this Trump phenomenon? Can he really win? What would it mean for U.S. policy going forward or U.S. engagement in the world?’ They’re all sort of incredulous.”

Those within Washington have tried to calm down these fears by reminding world leaders that Trump is currently winning in the primaries, but the general election will be much different demographics. Still, the fear is real. Olli Rehn of Finland provided more detail saying “In Europe, we are concerned about the U.S. possibly turning toward a more isolationist orientation. That would not be good for United States, good for Europe, good for the world. We need the U.S. engaged in global affairs in a constructive, positive way.”

Clearly, regardless of what the implications are at home, the international community looks to be cheering
