NJ Governor Chris Christie To Run For Presidency

NJ Governor Chris Christie To Run For Presidency

Just yesterday, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, announced that he will be taking his tough-talking style national as he runs for the upcoming Republican presidential nomination. Christie’s announcement takes the Republican presidential count to 14, a divisively high number. Christie went back to his roots when he spoke at his alma mater, Livingston High School, in New Jersey. For him, that’s where everything started.

Before commenting on his political platform, Christie detoured from his usual biting statements and paid a heartwarming homage to his family and hometown. Christie spoke candidly without notes or a teleprompter, and the ease with which he spoke made his run for president natural and plausible.

From his speech, it is obvious that Christie is going to use classic American Dream rhetoric and his position in his hometown’s local government to convince the voters that he is a nominee that relates to the average American. “One of the things my mother used to say to me all the time is: ‘Christopher, if you work hard enough, you can be anything,’” said Christie.

For the past 13 years, Chris Christie worked in public service as a U.S. Attorney and Governor of New Jersey, two experiences that make him an experienced candidate. In his speech, he cited his work in economically stabilizing the state of New Jersey and reforming public and social programs like education and healthcare.

“Americans are not angry,” Christie said, “Americans are filled with anxiety because they look to Washington, D.C., and they see a government that not only doesn't work anymore, it doesn't even talk to each other anymore.”

Christie cites the constant stalemates in Congress as a political setback and obstacle that the government needs to overcome. “Somehow, compromise is a dirty word,” Christie said. Clearly, he is counting on his appeal as a moderate GOP candidate to see him through the nominations.

In his announcement, he bluntly accused the government of lying to the American people, and he promised to give citizens the honesty they are looking for from political leaders. In addition to his straightforward talk, Christie pumped up the crowd with his platform of “big ideas and hard truths and real opportunities for the American people.”

The major takeaway is that Christie’s uplifting speech lacked specifics. He talked about the future and his platform in the vaguest of generalities as he promised truth, change, and true leadership. One thing we can count on: Christie will not hold his tongue when it comes to the problems of government. Let’s just hope America can handle his truth.
